White Roses and Silent Goodbyes

He once gave me a single red rose,

A token of love, I suppose.

Though gratitude bloomed in my heart that day,

I longed for white, yet dared not say.

Was it real, or was I blind?

Lost in thoughts that stayed confined.

Neither of us found the way,

To speak the words we meant to say.

Silent moments, stolen glance,

Love undone by circumstance.

Drifting far, yet longing near,

Bound by words we couldn't hear.

I wish he’d brought me white roses bright,

I wish he’d held my hand so tight.

But wishes fade, like petals dry,

Left behind in a whispered sigh.
